The Luxe Lineup: The Color of 2018 - Ultraviolet
Pantone recently announced the color of 2018 and we’re in love. For those of you that don’t know, Pantone has a subsidiary branch called, the Pantone Color Institute. The institute is a color consulting company that forecasts color trends, assists companies with color brand identity and product palette selection. The Pantone Color Institute also utilizes their team of designers, trend forecasters and colorists to research and identify the color of the year. Laurie Pressman, the Vice President of the Pantone Color of Institute stated that, “the Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today”.
The color of 2018 will be the mysterious and vibrant, Ultraviolet. Pantone describes Ultraviolet as a “dramatically provocative and thoughtful” shade that “communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future”. It “suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now”.
Several celebs like Rihanna, Kate Hudson, Kylie Jenner, Keke Palmer, Ciara, Priyanka Chopra and Queen Elizabeth were already ahead of the curve with the ultraviolet trend. But lets not forget the most iconic celeb to rock the cosmic hue, Prince. Purple became so synonymous with Prince, that it became his signature color. He even had a hit song and movie entitled, Purple Rain. Pantone also said that Prince along with Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie “brought shades of ultraviolet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality”.

In order to showcase and promote the color of 2018, Pantone created a mood board on their Instagram page. It featured pictures of celebrities wearing ultraviolet, as well as art work and paint samples.

We were so inspired by their mood board, that we decided to showcase our own interpretation of ultraviolet. Through our mood board we sought to illustrate the mystery, creativity and magic behind ultraviolet.

If you’re interested in incorporating ultraviolet into your wardrobe for 2018, we’ve selected a few items to provide a little outfit and beauty inspo.

If the future is female as well as ultraviolet, then we’re definitely ready for 2018. Excuse us while we go blast Purple Rain (Woo Hoo Hoo Hoo).
xoxo
